Modular done right

Lay out wall runs the way you'd sketch them — a line from corner to corner. The modeler resolves each one into the pieces that actually get built: panels tiled out from the post faces, a connector in every gap, and the right post at every junction.

A wall is not its length divided by eight. There's a connector taking two inches between every pair of panels, a corner eats into both runs that meet there, and a free end behaves nothing like a joint. Get that arithmetic wrong and the cut list is a panel short on a long run — which you find out on the shop floor, not on the drawing.

So the modeler doesn't estimate it. Panels are tiled from the face of each post, the gaps are reserved before anything is placed, and a run ending in open air is treated differently from one meeting another wall. The count on the drawing is the count that gets kitted.

Openings drop into the run rather than onto it. A door takes the slot it needs and the panels either side re-tile around it. A vent sizes itself down to whatever span is actually left instead of forcing a full-width part into a gap that won't take one. A pass-through goes through the wall, with a real hole, not a symbol stuck on the face.

Close a run and it becomes a room. Floor area, volume and air changes follow from the shape you drew, with no separate take-off. Runs attached to the outside of a prefab unit are read as anterooms and measured on their own terms — to their own height, not the shell's.
